Island tans and naked faces don’t play well together! June 4, 2009

natural-face-look

How many of us stand in front of our bathroom mirrors, peering at our reflection, picking and proding at our skin?  I know I used to do this on quite a regular basis.  As I have… ahem… aged gracefully, I had noticed changes in my skin and its appearance that, quite frankly, bothered me.  My face was showing the signs of all the ”Bain de Soliel for the St. Tropez tan” of years past, not to mention my Million Mile frequent fryer status at the tanning bed salon. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my bronzed skin and I was proud of it.  Never did it cross my mind to use sunscreen and sunblock (the horror)!  Only the 0 SPF product for me, please, with its heady tropical fragrance that conjured up visions of beautiful bikini clad women and their gorgeous lithe bronzed bodies.  I wanted that look, so I tanned and tanned and tanned some more. Now I am paying the price.

Or at least I was, until recently.

Thankfully, first and foremost, I had not been diagnosed with any skin cancers, but my skins appearance was in desperate need of help.  I am a self-confessed product junkie, and my cabinets and bathroom drawers could attest to this as they are filled with lotions, potions, creams and dreams. I have tried the full range of inexpensive to the outrageously priced products all in search of the latest and greatest products that could make my naked face happy again.  The blemishes, fine lines, brown spots and the uneven skin texture and tone were making a great case for the use of spackle in my regimen.  I wanted to have radiant skin again and be able to wear sunblock (yes, I do use it now) and nothing else on my face.  For one thing, living in Florida, the heat and humidity during the summer months does not do flattering things to makeup!  I needed skincare products that delivered results, reasonably priced, didn’t irritate or dry out my skin, a simplified step by step system, and didn’t require visiting a dermatologist but were readily available to me.  Does this exist?

Welcome, Rodan+Fields Dermatologists.

This is the product line that answers all those needs. A dermatological line that was created by Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. You might recognize the names as they are also the creators of ProActiv. I had heard of the doctors and knew of their successes so I decided to try their new skincare line.  The products that I am currently using to correct my sun-damaged skin are from the REVERSE line.  It is a simple to use, 4 step process that cleanses, exfoliates, tones, lighten and protects my skin.  In the 3 months that I have been using this product, my skin is much more radiant, the blotchiness and discoloration are fading and my skin tone is much more even.  I have not experienced the dryness and irritation that I have with product lines and I actually have gone outside and into the public arena with only sunblock on my face!  (I still wear my eye make-up though!) A naked face!  I love it!  I have been receiving compliments on my skin, which hasn’t happened in quite a while, and it gives me great confidence to have “nice skin” again.  I have loved the products so much that I became an Independent Consultant for Rodan+Fields Dermatologists, so that I can share my stories and experiences with everyone and anyone who will listen or read about it.  It is wonderful to educate and enable people to make smart choices regarding their skincare.  I hope that my story has inspired you to make some changes for the better for your skin so that you too can enjoy being a Naked Face!
